Community guidelines

A short, plain-spoken agreement about how we treat each other. Everyone who joins accepts these, and we ask you to read them properly rather than scroll past them.

Version 1.0

Welcome people well

This community exists so that more people can share Shabbat together. Be warm, be curious and assume good faith. Someone at your table may be meeting a whole side of the community for the first time.

No harassment, ever

Harassment, discrimination, pressure of any kind and unwanted advances are not tolerated. This applies at the table, in messages, in group chats and anywhere the community reaches you. If it happens, report it to a community admin.

Hosts set the boundaries

A host decides who they welcome, how many seats they have, their kashrut standards and what happens in their home. Read a host's expectations before you ask for a seat, and respect them if you are approved. Guests do not bring people the host has not approved.

Answer requests promptly

A guest is waiting to know whether they have a table. Hosts, please answer seat requests as soon as you reasonably can, and let guests know if you need a little time.

Cancel with care

Life happens and cancelling is always allowed. Please cancel as early as you can, and add a short reason if it is close to the dinner. A late cancellation leaves a real gap at a real table, so tell your host rather than simply disappearing.

Show up if you said you would

A confirmed seat is a promise. If you cannot come, cancel. Repeated no-shows affect how the community works and are reviewed by admins, though there is no automatic penalty.

Keep private things private

Addresses, phone numbers, group chat links and anything you learn about another member stay at the table. Do not screenshot, forward or share them, and do not post photos of people without asking.

Food and kashrut

Follow the host's kashrut guidelines when you bring something, and tell the host about allergies that matter. A host's kitchen is not automatically allergen-safe unless they have said it is. When in doubt, ask.

Children

Members are 18 and over. Children come as guests of an approved adult, with the host's agreement and the right number of them agreed in advance, so the host can plan food and space.

Invitations are a responsibility

When you can invite someone, you are vouching for them. Invite only people you would happily sit next to, and never pass a code on to someone you do not know.

If something here is broken, tell a community admin. Reports are read by a person, they are kept private, and they are taken seriously.
